Welcome to the Darlington Chamber Music Series for 2016

I am delighted to welcome you to our most ambitious season yet. Not only are we presenting our traditional winter concerts, but also for the first time we will be holding a Spring Festival, starring brilliant soprano Sara Macliver. Three concerts will be held on the weekend of October 22/23 – two on Saturday - lunchtime performance at St Cuthbert's Anglican Church , Darlington, and an evening performance at Guildford Grammar School Chapel. Final performance will be held at Darlington Estate Winery. For more information please click on our Spring Festival brochure

Information on this momentous event will be released closer to the time. In the meantime our expanded ensemble – Semra Lee-Smith (violin 1), Zak Rowntree (violin 2), Sally Boud (viola), Graeme Gilling (piano) and myself on cello – will showcase some spectacular work, most of it for the first time, beginning on Sunday, May 8, at 3 pm.

The line-up will include Shostakovich’s powerful Op. 67 Piano Trio, Beethoven’s Op. 95 String Quarter, Schumann’s Piano Quartet and, for the final concert, the magnificent Septet by Beethoven. There will also be a special concert, Champagne and Song Too, by soprano Penelope Reynolds and baritone Robert Hofmann, backed on piano by Tommaso Pollio, whose on-stage antics have always delighted Darlington audiences.

Come and join us for another fantastic year of fine music, food, fun – and our outrageously decadent afternoon teas.
Jon Tooby
